SIAST accredited to test newcomers’ language skills

SASKATOON – Newcomers to Saskatchewan now have a way to have their language skills tested without having to leave the province. 

SIAST now offers assessments through the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the first IELTS centre in the province. 

“This service provides newcomers with a tool to measure their English language proficiency and help them further their studies in post-secondary education or transition into the workforce,” said Della Anaquod, dean of basic education.

IELTS is a standardized system that determines a persons’ skill level in reading, writing, listening and speaking and are administered at Kelsey campus in Saskatoon and Wascana campus in Regina. 

Candidates can also upgrade in any of the four skills before writing the test. 

Test results are also recognized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada along with more than 6,000 organizations worldwide.
