Calgary contractor fined

An unlicensed Calgary contractor has been fined for taking deposits without a license.

In 2007 and 2008 Kieron Warren operated Hillcrest Renovations and signed three contracts with Calgary homeowners.

He took nearly $50,000 in deposits but when the work wasn’t finished on time and they couldn’t get all their money back they complained to Alberta Consumer Services.

However Warren did not have a Provincial Pre-paid Contractors License and was charged under the Fair Trading Act.

He pleaded guilty and on Friday November 23rd was fined $7,000.

The Judge will decide later how much money he must repay the 3 customers.

During sentencing the Judge scolded Warren after learning he has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary, saying, “…and you didn’t know about the legislation? You should be ashamed of yourself”.

Kieron Warren is currently the subject of a new investigation by Service Alberta.

During 2011 and 2012, seven homeowners allege they signed renovation contracts with Kieron Warren and Kreate Kitchens gave him a total of $500,000 in deposits.

Warren is still not licensed as a pre-paid contractor.

The customers say the work was never finished and they couldn’t get their money back.

The allegations are still being investigated and no charges have been laid.

Warren, Kreate Inc and his mother Greta have been served with a court order to stop operating and not to collect deposits.
