Calgary police are searching for suspects after two violent robberies at Chinook Centre on Tuesday.

According to police, the first victim was robbed at gunpoint as she left the Pottery Barn on the east side of the mall at around 10 p.m. The offenders struck the victim in the face with a gun and took her purse.

About 10 minutes later, a man was robbed at gunpoint and struck with a gun in the parking lot on the mall’s west side. The culprits made off with his backpack and wallet.

Police are searching for two men believed to have left the mall in a small grey car.

The suspects are described as:

  • Male approximately 6’2″ tall with a slim build, wearing camouflage pants, a camouflage jacket and a hoodie.
  • Male approximately 5’11” tall with a medium build, wearing a black and navy blue hoodie, glasses.

Chinook Mall said in a statement that the safety and security of guests, tenants and staff is something they take very seriously.

“After any incident, such as those that occurred on Dec. 13, we review our security protocols and adjust as needed.”

On Wednesday, police confirmed they believe the suspects are likely also responsible for an attempted carjacking at Marlborough Mall about an hour later.

“Based upon the description, we believe that they are the same perpetrators,” Staff Sgt. Steve Lorne said.
