Captive Missouri woman rescued after giving UPS driver hostage note

A UPS driver is credited with rescuing a woman who was allegedly beaten, sexually assaulted and held captive in her home by her husband, police in Missouri say.

The woman, who has not been identified, slipped a note to a UPS delivery driver when he came to pick up a package on Dec. 6, in Franklin County.

The woman wrote “contact 911” on the box, according to local news station KMOV.

“He made a huge difference,” Franklin County sheriff’s department Sgt. T.J. Wild told KMOV.

According to court documents obtained by the CBS affiliate, the woman claims her husband beat her, put a gun to her head, sexually abused her, threatened to kill her, and reportedly dragged her by her hair into the house when she tried to escape.

There are allegations that the man also locked the couple’s three-year-old child in a room for several hours, the Franklin County sheriff’s office says.

KMOV is reporting that the child was left without food or water for 15 hours.

But when the UPS driver saw the message for help from the woman, he notified police, the sheriff’s office said. Police were able to rescue the woman and child.

Police say they charged the woman’s husband with domestic assault, sodomy, felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
