Slick roads cause major delays in Calgary on Wednesday

Emergency crews in Calgary were dealing with plenty of crashes Wednesday evening as the snow began to fall.

Major delays were reported around 9:30 p.m. along the Deerfoot Trail near 130 Avenue in the city’s southeast. Two crashes – just moments apart – on the Calf Robe Bridge ended with two vehicles upside down. No serious injuries were reported.

Another crash around 10 p.m. on the northbound lanes of the Deerfoot Trail at Stoney Trail caused major delays. Police said all lanes of traffic were closed as emergency crews worked to remove numerous vehicles, including a semi-truck.

City of Calgary sanding crews will be concentrating on high-traffic routes, including Glenmore Trail, Macleod Trail, Crowchild Trail and Metis Trail.

Overnight, crews will focus on the main roads leading into the downtown core.

The province is responsible for maintaining Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail.
