We’re just 38 sleeps away from Christmas but, the holiday season is officially underway at Churchill Square.
The weather remained in their favour as thousands of people packed the square Saturday evening, for the Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up.
A variety of events were held for people of all ages from face painting for kids, to stilt-walkers for entertainment.

“And then there’s the main stage which has some of Edmonton’s best performers,” said Katherine Hoy, Marketing Manager, Downtown Business Association.
Live music, dancing and choir were among those performances.
But, perhaps the most magical event of all was the lighting of the Christmas tree. The 22 metre tall white spruce was lit at 6p.m by jolly ol’ Saint Nick himself.
14,000 sparkling lights began to shine as Churchill Square was transformed into a winter wonderland for the holiday season.
This year’s tree came from a sustainably managed forest in Whitecourt.
“That means for every tree that’s cut down they plant three seeds,” explained Hoy.
Donations were also collected for the Edmonton Food Bank as people took in the sights and sounds of the holiday season.
