While Metro Vancouver has been dealing with almost nothing but rain, the precipitation has been falling as snow on the local ski hills.

Cypress Mountain has seen almost a foot of new snow fall in only 48 hours.

Officials say it is the most natural snow to start the season in the past four years.

As a result of the new snow, Cypress is opening up more terrain to skiers and snowboarders and they will have four of their six chairlifts open, including the Sky Chair.

The cross-country area and the snow tube park are not open just yet.

Grouse Mountain is also open, with 24 centimeters in the last 24 hours.

Mount Seymour is expected to open on Wednesday.

Whistler has also received 204 centimetres of snow in the last seven days. Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain are now open.
