Cypress Mountain to open Friday thanks to snowy week

The North Shore’s Cypress Mountain will be the first ski hill in Metro Vancouver to open this season.

The resort announced on Thursday they would officially open the downhill portion of the mountain on Friday at 10 a.m., with both Lions Chair and Easy Rider Chair operating.

If the snow continues, they hope to have Sky Chair operating as well.

The opening is possible thanks to a dumping of snow this week. Cypress has received 90 centimetres in the last seven days, with 20 centimetres falling in the last 24 hours.

At mid-mountain, there is a current snow depth of 90 centimetres.

Cypress Mountain will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend. Lift tickets will also be 40 per cent off Friday only.
