Police said “officers are in the process of containing two scenes in northeast Edmonton” in connection with an armed robbery Friday evening.
Officers were called to 137 Avenue and 93 Street at around 7:10 p.m. after reports of a bank robbery in the area.
According to police, two men wearing black hoodies entered the bank, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing. During the robbery, police said one suspect reportedly brandished a gun. Police said they believe a third man also seen fleeing the scene may be connected to the robbery.
Police described the incident as a “violent, takeover-style robbery” that involved several weapons. They said they believe the suspects first fled in a vehicle before later fleeing on foot.
Police vehicles could be seen surrounding a TD Canada Trust.
According to police, about 20 people were inside the bank at the time of the robbery and while no injuries were reported, several people inside were shaken up after the ordeal.
An investigation led police to deploy officers to a pair off different addresses after the robbery.
“Those two addresses have since been cleared by our tactical unit and canine unit with negative results,” Insp. Regan James said. “However, fortunately we have some information that should likely progress our investigation.”
