Police said they are investigating after a 25-year-old pregnant woman was hit in a marked crosswalk in northwest Edmonton Thursday evening.

According to police, officers were called to 114 Street and Kingsway at around 6 p.m. after the collision occurred.

They said the woman, who was 36-weeks pregnant, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and that she may need to undergo an emergency C-section although they could not confirm if a caesarean section was actually performed.

Police said the driver of the SUV was a woman with two children in her vehicle and that she stayed at the scene after hitting the pedestrian.

Police said it was too early in their investigation to say whether charges would be laid.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the crash, police said.
