Black smoke is filling the air as a major fire rages at 3464 Parc Ave., just south of Milton Street in downtown Montreal.
The five-alarm fire started around 9:20 a.m. in the vacant three-storey building.
“The building is considered dangerous, we have 120 firefighters working,” said Martin Farmer, Montreal fire department’s chief of operations, adding firefighters will not enter the premises for now.
“We will be here for the entire day.”

“Parts of the roof are starting to fall,” Mohamed El Salahi, who lives in a nearby apartment, told Global News.

Fire officials explained the fire spread to a neighbouring condo building and a restaurant.

They are working to limit the damage.
There are no reported injuries.
Three families have been taken in by the Red Cross.
There are no other major evacuations, but businesses and homes nearby are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed.
Officials have established a perimeter between Milton and Sherbrooke streets.
