Halifax police have charged an 18-year-old man in connection with the assault of his child.

Police were called to the IWK Health Centre the evening of Nov. 2 relating to a suspected case of child abuse.

A five-week-old baby is said to have sustained multiple injuries.

Members of the Special Investigation Section have laid charges against the child’s father as a result of a police investigation. He appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court Thursday to face charges of aggravated assault and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The man’s name cannot be released due to a publication ban on any information that would reveal the child’s identity.
