Reality TV couple the Gosselins are back in the news again, this time because father Jon Gosselin claims that his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, is hiding one of their sons from him.

Jon said that Kate told him that Collin, 12, is enrolled in a “special school for special needs kids with behavioural problems,” but Jon insists law-enforcement officials have given him other information.

“I have an idea where he is but I don’t really know where he is,” Jon said to Entertainment Tonight.

In August, Kate revealed that Collin, one of the sextuplets, is special needs and has been sent to a “program away from home” to help him function to his best ability. Kate did not reveal what specific condition Collin has.

“Collin has special needs,” Kate said. “[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this. By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him – our entire family has been impacted.”

The Gosselins famously had eight children (now 12-year-old sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Leah and Joel, and a set of 16-year-old twins, Mady and Cara), and their TLC reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8, was a ratings juggernaut … at least at first. Over time their popularity waned, and due to the stress of having eight children and the constant scrutiny of TV cameras, Jon and Kate divorced in 2009.

The series was later renamed Kate Plus 8 in 2010, focusing on Kate as a divorced mother raising all eight children, with Jon mostly absent from the show. Filming was later suspended after Jon’s lawyers delivered letters to TLC, demanding they halt production. He even stopped production crews from walking onto their property. The last episode aired in 2011.

The show returned in 2014, and Season 5 of Kate Plus 8 starts on Nov. 22.

Kate, 41, currently has full custody of all the children, and Jon, 39, has partial physical custody — but he says he hasn’t seen Collin in nearly two years.

“I mean, I ask but she doesn’t tell me,” he said, adding that Collin’s siblings have “no idea” where he is. “She doesn’t answer any of my texts. [The kids] know that their mom told them that he has behavioural issues.”

Jon also says that he never saw any issues or warning signs in Collin’s behaviour, describing him as “incredibly intuitive” and “really smart.”

“I could see my kids getting annoyed with that because he’s the smartest and he does this, and he does that, and he always wants it his way,” he said “He’s very particular, which could be bothersome. But, he’s very loving too. He was a cuddly kid as a baby.”

“I love my children very much,” Jon said in August when Kate re-emerged with the story about Collin. “I’ve always been there for them and I always will be. It’s shocking.”

Kate has not yet commented about Jon’s claims, and Collin’s specific whereabouts are still unknown.
