Electrical issues delay reconfiguration of Cavendish, Kildare intersection

Côte Saint-Luc residents waiting for a new light configuration at the intersection of Cavendish Boulevard and Kildare Road will have to wait a few days longer.

According to mayor Mitchell Brownstein, installation will take a little longer due to electrical issues.

The intersection’s traffic lights are expected to be changed to have a split configuration.

“So, by changing the lights for now, we think that’s going to be a great improvement,” he said.

Motorists travelling westbound on Kildare Road will be able to drive through the intersection at Cavendish, while traffic in the opposite direction waits.

Drivers will be able to turn left, right or go straight without having to battle opposing traffic.

Once the light changes, motorists heading east will have their chance to move through the intersection without interference.

“You feel like you’re going to get hit by a car or someone else,” said Dan Hocshtatter, who lives near the intersection.

City officials believe crossing the intersection will also be easier for pedestrians as there will be fewer vehicles to look out for.

Eventually, Brownstein said he hopes the entire corner will be reconfigured.
