A contract guard at the Norway House RCMP detachment has been arrested after complaints of sexual assault against female prisoners.
Norway House RCMP received two complaints Wednesday about a guard who inappropriately touched two female prisoners through the cell door, according to an RCMP release. The alleged incidents took place over a span of two months.
At approximately 5 p.m. Thursday, the 21-year-old Norway House man was arrested. Charges are pending.
The guard was a contract employee with the RCMP. He’d been working at the detachment since December 2014.
“We acted immediately upon learning of the accusations and have arrested a suspect but it is important that our officers hear from anyone who may have information on this matter,” RCMP Supt. Will Tewnion said in a news release.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is continuing with the investigation.
Anyone with information regarding the incidents is asked to contact Norway House RCMP at 1-204-359-6483 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
