Calgary man’s ‘quick thinking’ keeps fire from spreading: fire department

The Calgary Fire Department is crediting one man’s “quick thinking” with keeping a fire in the city’s southeast under control.

The man called 911 on Thursday at around 9 a.m. after a smoke alarm alerted him to a fire in his bedroom. He closed the bedroom door, then grabbed his pets and went outside.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze.

“The resident’s quick-thinking decision to close the bedroom door before evacuating was instrumental in containing the fire to that one room and limiting damage to the rest of the residence” the fire department said in a news release.

Neither the homeowner nor his pets were injured.

Firefighters said the bedroom was damaged and the rest of the unit suffered smoke damage.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
