WINNIPEG — It’s a Winnipeg ad that targets smokers, asking them to clean up their cigarette butts and quit littering.

Take Pride Winnipeg recently launched the ads on bus stop shelters, which reads “No butts about it. Cigarettes are one third of our litter.” The image then shows a large cigarette on a skyscraper, which at first glance may look like downtown Winnipeg.

However, if you look closer, you can see the ad is not of a Winnipeg skyline, but a generic photo of downtown buildings.

Take Pride Winnipeg said a generic photo of buildings was used for a reason.

“The image does not target a specific place in Winnipeg,”  said Colleen Kurlowich of Take Pride Winnipeg.

Kurlowich said Take Pride Winnipeg did not want to offend a particular business or area, so the organization decided to use a generic photo of downtown buildings.
