The newest childcare facility at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) was officially opened on Monday.
The one-storey building has space for 90 children, aged six months to six years old.

Most of the estimated $4.3 million for the project is coming from the U of S.

“Our $1.4-million investment in this centre is an investment in the future of Saskatchewan people,” said Saskatchewan Education Minister Don Morgan.
“Access to childcare allows parents to pursue education and job opportunities while their children are engaged in quality early learning programs.”

The facility is located across the street from the university at 109 Cumberland Avenue South.
Executive director of the U of S Students’ Union (USSU) childcare centre, Colleen Gerling, said the idea for the stand-alone centre came from previous USSU executives who were instrumental in keeping the project alive.
There are now three childcare centres at the Saskatoon campus. The majority of the 200 spaces are held for students’ children and the remainder are available to the children of faculty and staff.
