Driver dies after colliding with downtown Edmonton building

A man in his 50s is dead after a collision in downtown Edmonton Tuesday morning.

Police said a vehicle was heading east on 104 Avenue when it crossed into the westbound lane, struck a barricade, veered back across the eastbound lane and collided with a condo building in the area of 104 Avenue and 105 Street.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police believe the man may have suffered a medical episode.

The collision caused the closure of both directions of 104 Avenue between 104 Street and 105 Street.

The area was re-opened at 2:30 p.m.
