Thanksgiving gifts for Drop-In Centre residents battling cold weather

It was a dreary, white Thanksgiving Monday in Calgary, and no one was likely feeling the sub-zero weather more than the city’s most vulnerable.

Hundreds of people were settling in for turkey and trimmings at the Drop-In Centre Monday night, and earlier, more than a thousand visitors to the centre were given warm socks.

Employees from Stuart Olson donated 1,400 pairs to homeless Calgarians, which they delivered Monday.

“Winter has come a little early this year,” CEO of Stuart Olson, David Le May said. “We timed it well. Unfortunately, it’s pretty cold outside. Everyone is pretty grateful for a warm pair of socks.”

Some 3,500 people are expected to be taking part that the Drop-In Centre’s annual turkey dinner which starts at 6 p.m.
