Man arrested in Ottawa after armed robbery triggered Canada-wide warrant

A 29-year-old man is in custody facing break-and-enter charges two weeks after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.

Correll Slawter was arrested in Ottawa by Niagara police on Thursday and returned to the Niagara Region. He has been charged with break-and-enter to commit an indictable offence related to robbery as well as failure to comply with a probation order.

Police identified Slawter as one of two suspects wanted in connection with a residential robbery on Sept. 22 near Drummond and McLeod roads in Niagara Falls, Ont.

Niagara police said two suspects with firearms entered the house while residents were still at home and removed several items before fleeing on foot. No one was harmed during the incident.

Police said Slawter has known ties to the Niagara Region, Greater Toronto Area and Halifax.

He is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing in St. Catharines, Ont. on Friday.

The robbery investigation is still underway as police continue searching for a second suspect
