EDITOR’S NOTE: On Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2016 Calgary police issued a release saying Katelyn Ormandy had been located “safe and in good condition.” Police said no further details about the case would be released.
Although police believe a young Calgary girl who went missing this week is safe, her parents are pleading for her to return home.
Katelyn Ormandy’s father Dallas said his daughter wasn’t in the family’s New Brighton home when he woke up at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
“We had a feeling that something might be wrong about 5 p.m. And then started reaching out to her friends – to find out she didn’t go to school.”
Dallas said surveillance footage from one of their New Brighton neighbours showed Ormandy leaving their house at around 7:45 a.m. on Monday. She was wearing a black hoodie, black leggings and a brown bag.
Ormandy is described as 5’4” tall, 120 pounds with auburn hair.
“When we went to bed Sunday night, it was just like any other night,” Dallas said. “She gave me a kiss, said ‘good night dad, love you, love you mom’ and went into bed.”
“For her not to have her cellphone on … for her not to have any contact with her sister – it doesn’t compute.”
Ormandy’s mother Michelle describes her daughter’s disappearance as “totally random.”
Through tears, Michelle said if she could tell her daughter anything, it would be that she loves her.
“I just want you to come home … I love you to the moon, baby.”
Calgary police told Global News they believe Ormandy is safe, and spoke with friends of hers who had seen her on Tuesday night. They’re urging the teen to contact her parents.
Anyone with information on Ormandy’s whereabouts is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
