The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) has confirmed parents will be able to keep track of their children who ride the bus to and from school.
Last year, the CBE bus service providers installed Zonar GPS Hardware in all their yellow buses.
Students have now been provided with a “Z-Pass” which they will be expected to scan every bus trip.
Eventually the goal is to allow parents to be able to tell when and where students get on and off of buses through an app.

At least one parent group has expressed some concern about who will be paying for the new devices.
Althea Adams, media coordinator with the Calgary Association of Parents and School Councils, told Global News she was given a letter that states the program will cost $280,000.
“The question really quickly becomes, how is this being paid for?”
The Calgary Board of Education was not able to comment on how the program will be funded.
The Calgary Catholic system told Global News they plan on using a new bus tracking system this spring that would also tap into the existing GPS installed on buses.
