WINNIPEG — Once considered a promising prospect, Scott Glennie’s future is up in the air.

The 25-year-old Winnipegger was among the Manitoba Moose hopefuls who skated Monday morning during the opening day of the team’s training camp. Glennie was signed by the squad in September to a professional tryout agreement. After several seasons of struggle, the forward sees it as a second chance.

“The opportunity I’ve been given here, not a lot of guys get that,” said Glennie. “I’m going to try to make the most of it.”

Glennie was selected by the Dallas Stars eighth overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He put up 308 points in 252 games during his WHL career with the Brandon Wheat Kings. That success though never followed him to the NHL.

“I guess everything just came easier before,” said Glennie. “Maybe I thought that’s how it’s going to be. Getting drafted so high, I thought I would get the opportunity regardless of how things went.”

Glennie ended up dressing in just a single game with the Stars. At the end of the 2014-2015 season, the team cut ties with him. Glennie hasn’t played since.

“(It) makes you realize how lucky you are to be playing pro hockey,” said Glennie. “I’m lucky to be here.”

Ready to prove himself all over again.

“He’s making his decisions today on what he wants to do,” said Moose head coach Pascal Vincent. “It’s all up to him. As far as I am concerned, there’s no history. History starts today.”

The Moose will continue to skate until this weekend when they’ll head to North Dakota to play a pair of pre-season games against the Iowa Wild.
