Firefighters have now extinguished a fire burning at Vancouver’s Regent Hotel.
Just after 4 a.m. fire crews rushed to the SRO on the Downtown Eastside. When they arrived they found a mattress burning in one of the rooms.
The building was evacuated while crews worked to douse the flames.
Only two suites were damaged in the blaze and no one was hurt.
It was a small fire but crews did have some trouble accessing it due to construction.
“Engine two got on scene and they made their way up to the building under construction,” said Vancouver Fire Battalion Chief Steve Duncan. “They reported they had smoke on the fifth floor. We made it a working fire.”
“They had a little trouble making it up there so they used the house lines on scene and extinguished the fire. There were several people we took out of the fire but once we got it under control we let the people stay outside.”
