Focus Montreal introduces Montrealers to people who are shaping our community, bringing their stories into focus.
It airs on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and at midnight.
Take a look at who we’re meeting this week on Focus Montreal:
Paralympic superstar Aurelie Rivard
Para-swimmer Aurelie Rivard headed to Rio as the woman to beat in the pool and she did not disappoint.
Rivard brought home three gold medals, one silver medal and carried Canada’s flag at the closing ceremonies in Rio earlier this month.
The 20-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur Richelieu, Que., was a key player in helping Team Canada reach its goal of a top-16 finish at the games.
Fresh off her Olympic win, Rivard joins senior anchor, Jamie Orchard, to talk about her experiences in Rio.
Monitoring online behaviour in children
Two teenage boys accused of plotting to rape and murder their classmates in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. made headline news across the province this week.
The teens face a total of 18 charges, including multiple counts of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit a criminal act.
Fortunately the plot was foiled thanks to one of the teens’ mom who turned them in after seeing their plan on Facebook.
Cyber security expert, Terry Cutler, called that mom “very brave.”
In an interview earlier this week, Cutler discussed how important it is for parents to know what their children are doing online.
For more information on how to monitor your child’s online behaviour, you can visit “Terry Cutler – The Ethical Hacker” website.
The teens, aged 14 and 16, are expected back in court Oct. 18.
Great Montrealers: Shirley Hunt
As part of Global Montreal’s ongoing commitment to showcase people who are helping make their communities better, we’re launching a new series putting the spotlight on Great Montrealers.
This week’s Great Montrealer is Shirley Hunt.
In the past four years, the mother of three has blossomed into a guardian angel for an entire community.
Hunt runs the Community Connections Facebook page in Hudson and Saint-Lazare, the main purpose of which is to unite residents to help one another.
If you want to nominate a Great Montrealer, just log onto the Global Montreal website and fill in the entry form. Some of the entries will be profiled in the weeks and months ahead.
