RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating death in northwest Alberta

The RCMP said its Major Crimes Unit has been deployed to take over a homicide investigation in a community in the far northwest corner of Alberta after a person died there early Friday morning.

Police officers found a man with serious injuries when they responded to a disturbance complaint in Chateh. They said he died of his injuries a short time later.

Mounties said a person of interest was under police guard at a hospital as they received treatement for injuries they are believed to have suffered during the “incident.”

RCMP said their investigation is ongoing but that they did not believe the events leading up to the victim’s death were random.
