A male suspect, identified by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) today as 20-year-old Boni-Muhammed Mutawakel, was quickly arrested at the scene by Surrey RCMP after attempting to flee. He has been charged with aggravated assault. IHIT and RCMP are currently working with Crown Council to determine if Mutawakel will face homicide charges.

Investigators are still investigating the incident to confirm motive, yet they believe the confrontation began as a verbal dispute between Mutawakel and one or both of the victims. Because the incident occurred in a public area during daytime, there were a number of witnesses who are still being interviewed.
