The TTC is investigating after a video was posted on YouTube which shows a bus driver holding and tapping on a cellphone with one hand while driving.
The 12-second video was posted online Saturday, but TTC spokesman Brad Ross said he was made aware of the incident Friday morning.
“This is a very serious matter and the TTC is treating it as such given the enormous responsibility it has for the safety of its customers and all road users,” Ross told Global News in a statement.
Ross said he believes the video was filmed Thursday afternoon on a 20 Cliffside route bus.
He said the operator has been identified and a disciplinary process is underway but Ross said the agency doesn’t discuss disciplinary actions, which can range from suspension to dismissal.
Ross said the use of cellphones while driving is prohibited by the TTC and the Highway Traffic Act.

“The expectations the TTC has of its employees around strict adherence to the policy – and law – on cell phone use is very clear with our workforce, the vast majority of whom do an excellent job day in and day out,” Ross said.
Meanwhile, the video comes days after the OPP conducted a highly publicized Labour Day long weekend distracted driving blitz when officers laid almost 800 charges for inattentive driving.
