The Evergreen Line will now be open before Christmas, but no specific date has been given for when the public will able to use the new service.

In the latest announcement made last November, the B.C. government said the line was delayed again and was expected to be operational in early 2017.

It was first scheduled to be open in summer of 2016, but was pushed back to fall, 2016.

The line is now over 90 per cent complete, but the project was delayed by construction problems including multiple sink holes that popped up in the vicinity of the line, forcing street closures and concerns from neighbours.

The $1.43 billion, 11-kilometre line will link the neighbourhoods of Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam to Vancouver. Translink estimates that when the line is operational, it will carry 70,000 passengers and remove 40,000 cars from the road every day by 2021.

The B.C. government is also investing $5 million to build 150 new parking spaces at the Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station, where the Evergreen Line ends.
