“Wow, look at all these books!” Kiran Gill exclaimed. “There are tons and tons of books here.”
Gill was checking out a room filled with containers of books Wednesday at Daher Orthodontics in northeast Calgary.
Gill’s eight-year-old daughter, Simoh, is a patient at the clinic, which has been running a big book drive over the summer holidays.
Staff now have about 800 books to donate as back-to-school gifts to students at nearby Marlborough Elementary School.
“Some of our patients came in with big bags and boxes of books, which was really appreciated,” clinic manager Karen Fee explained.
“It’s just great to get the kids reading and understanding how important it is to continue reading,” Fee added.
“It’s a great idea,” Gill said. “It gives kids an opportunity to read more.”
“Do you learn anything when you read?” she asked Simoh.
“Words,” her daughter replied.
“Do you maybe learn about things you didn’t know?” Gill asked, to which Simoh replied: “Yep.”
