He calls himself “Okanagan Bob”. Others might call him a danger to the motoring public.
That’s because he seems to get some kind of reckless kick from driving very fast on the Highway 97 bypass through Lake Country, using a dash-cam to video his inconsiderate antics, and then posting it to YouTube.
“It’s a very dangerous situation and the outcomes could have been very tragic,” said RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey after viewing the video which shows the vehicle hitting speeds of almost 180 kilometres-an-hour in a 100 zone.
At one point, the driver swears at another motorist who sounds their horn to try to slow him down.
The fines for excessive speeding, 41 k-m-h or more over the posted limit, can reach almost $500 dollars.
The vehicle can also be impounded for at least seven days with the associated towing and storage fees.
“An individual travelling at these types of speeds could face changes under the Motor Vehicle Act,” said O’Donaghey. “But depending on the circumstances, they could be charged criminally for dangerous driving as well.”
Anyone with any information about the identity of Okangan Bob, or the vehicle he drives, is asked to contact RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services.
“We want everyone doing the speed limit. It’s not to avoid tickets, it’s to avoid tragedy,” said O’Dongahey.
