7 Calgary residents face 56 charges after drug bust: ALERT

Seven Calgarians are facing 56 drug-related charges. Global News

Editor’s note: Global News has learned that Spencer Allan-Elliott has since pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of an illegal substance. The charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine was withdrawn.

A number of Calgarians ranging in age from 19 to 41 years old are facing a number of charges after an investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).

In a news release Thursday, ALERT officials said they conducted three searches over two days at the end of August, focusing on street-level drug sales.

A significant quantity of drugs, money and ammunition was recovered including:

  • 72 grams of cocaine;
  • 84 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 44 vials of suspected GHB;
  • Various rounds of ammunition;
  • $10,000 cash proceeds of crimes;
  • 3 vehicles.

The release also said ALERT believed the people arrested are part of a larger criminal organization, and they expect further charges and arrests in the coming weeks.

The following seven people are facing a total of 56 charges, including drug trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and breach of prohibition.

  • Spencer Allan-Elliott, 26;
  • Antonio Chavez, 23;
  • Larissa Cowen, 25;
  • Corey DeBakker, 19;
  • Jason Hamilton, 40;
  • Jerrod Kennedy, 32;
  • Andrew McGuire, 41.

ALERT consists of Calgary Police Service and RCMP members.
