An elderly man was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Airdrie, Alta. on Tuesday.

It happened on Mackenzie Way and 8 Street S.W. at around 11:10 a.m.

The victim, believed to be in his 70s or 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Preliminary witness reports indicated a pedestrian was crossing Mackenzie Way at a marked crosswalk and was struck by a southbound vehicle turning onto Mackenzie Way from 8 Street,” RCMP said in a statement Tuesday.

EMS said a woman believed to be in her 70s or 80s was assessed on scene due to medical concerns, but not taken to hospital.

RCMP are investigating.

The city of Airdrie is located about 35 kilometres north of Calgary.
