UPDATE: All advisories mentioned in this story have ended
A funnel cloud advisory has been issued by Environment Canada for western Saskatchewan, including Saskatoon.
The agency said conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds on Thursday afternoon and into the evening.
A trough of low pressure is tracking across the western portion of the province, which will produce isolated thunderstorm activity.
Although meteorologists said most of the thunderstorms will be weak, winds converging around the trough may provide enough rotation to produce funnel clouds.
These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms that are normally not a danger near the ground.
However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.
While landspout tornadoes do not usually cause significant damage, they can be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances.
