A new bike path on Sainte-Angélique Road in Saint-Lazare has residents and cyclists unhappy with its design.
The bike path has several points where it ends abruptly and also forces cyclists to switch sides of the road.

“It comes and it goes and you cross the street, I think it’s very dangerous for younger children,” said Don Staniforth, a Saint-Lazare resident and cyclist who has used the bike path.
“It could be greatly improved in that sense.”
Saint-Lazare mayor Robert Grimaudo said the bike path was put in place for security reasons and to promote a more active lifestyle.
He explained the city worked with engineers in designing the path.

“It’s a wonderful town and this mayor in a few years is bringing it all down,” said Denis Hache, a Saint-Lazare resident.
“It’s very sad in my opinion.”
The situation has Hache questioning the money spent on the new bike path.
“I thought this mayor was going to listen to the people and try to save money,” Hache said.
“This mayor has been spending money left and right, wasting money.”
Grimaudo insisted the cost of the bike path was within the town’s budget.

“The way they implemented it, maybe they just discussed it with cyclists,” Hache said.
“If this is what they got I think it doesn’t bode well for cyclists or motorists.”
