Man charged after 2 people shot on First Nations reserve in northern Alberta

RCMP said a 29-year-old man is facing charges after two people were shot at a home on the St. Jean Baptiste Gambler First Nations Reserve by Calling Lake, Alta. on Monday.

According to police, at least two suspects entered the home before a fight broke out and two people were shot inside.

Mounties said a 55-year-old man who was shot in the shoulder was able to escape the home and call for help. The other victim, a 24-year-old man, was shot in the shoulder and “chest area.”

Both victims were conscious when they were rushed to hospital in the Edmonton area. Police said they both underwent surgery and are now in stable condition.

RCMP said officers conducted door-to-door inquiries and arrested a suspect they believe to be the shooter.

Lindsie Bigstone has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shootings.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Aug. 29 at Athabasca Provincial Court.

Police said a 17-year-old, who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with obstruction in connection with the incident.

Calling Lake is about a two-and-a-half hour drive north of Edmonton.
