A newlywed Saskatoon couple received a belated wedding gift from trip-booking service Expedia after a “nightmare” trying to get the father of the bride to the wedding.

Rylan and Anna Goudreau purchased a ticket for her father through Expedia five months ago. He was scheduled to travel from Prague, Czech Republic, to Saskatoon on Aug. 11.

But when he arrived at the airport for departure, he learned the flight had been changed to an earlier time. Neither KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a Delta carrier, nor Expedia had contacted the passenger, according to the couple.

“The flight that he showed up for ceased to exist,” Rylan Goudreau said.

“We have all the itineraries and the reminders to check-in and they all say the same time. This even up to 24 hours before the flight was supposed to leave,” he added.

The couple booked another series of flights that would get the father to the wedding, albeit slightly late, for $3,200.

The couple spent many frustrating hours going back and forth between Expedia and Delta over the phone and on social media.

After contacting the media, the Goudreaus got a refund for the second flight.

“I feel like we’ve had maybe a small moral victory – that they’ve finally taken some responsibility,” Rylan Goudreau said.

Expedia will also offer a travel voucher to the father of the bride.
