A 33-year-old former teacher with the Elk Island Catholic School Division, who pled guilty to sexual offences involving a female student, has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Brett Mittelsteadt pleaded guilty to sexual interference and to communicating with a person under 16 years of age for the purpose of facilitating the commission of a sexual offence.
The Strathcona County man committed the offences between March 2013 and Sept. 2014 but RCMP first received a complaint on Feb. 2, 2015.

Mittelsteadt was teaching at Holy Redemeer Catholic School, an elementary-junior high in Ardrossan at the time when he was first charged.
As part of his sentence, Mittelsteadt is also subject to a 10-year firearms prohibition.
