Dion lost both her husband, René Angélil, 73, to throat cancer and her brother Daniel Dion, 59, to brain, tongue and throat cancer in January.

The show is executive-produced by Limitless actor Bradley Cooper, who lost his father to lung cancer in 2011.

“We all have a reason to stand up,” said Cooper, 41, in a statement. “Stand Up To Cancer is a sustained movement that impacts millions of lives. We honour the personal stories that motivate individuals to fight, and that highlight the urgent need to get new methods of treatment to the patients who so desperately need them.”

Leading up to the show, people are encouraged to share how cancer has impacted their lives by posting photos and videos on Twitter using #Reasons2StandUp.

The charity behind the Stand Up to Cancer broadcast has raised more than US$370 million since it was launched by journalist and co-founder Katie Couric in 2008. The event aims to build public support for cancer research.

Stand Up To Cancer will air on Global TV at 8 p.m. More performers and celebrity announcers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
