Kelowna RCMP say a boat operator and some of his passengers are facing a series of potential charges after being stopped by police.

The incident took place Friday night on Okanagan Lake. Officers patrolling the lake saw the boat operating in an erratic manner.

During a safety check officers noticed open alcohol on board and saw there weren’t enough life jackets on board.

A breathalyzer showed the operator – a 26-year-old from Vancouver – had twice the legal limit of alcohol allowed.

Police say he now faces potential charges of impaired operation of a vessel.

When checking the boat police also found that a 28-year-old Kelowna man and a 22-year-old Kelowna woman were both allegedly in breach of their Court-imposed conditions of release.

Both were arrested and are currently in custody.

“The RCMP would like to remind the public, that public safety both on and off the water is our priority this weekend and that drinking and driving, whether on land or water, is illegal and punishable under the Criminal Code,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a press release.

Police are urging the public to report any suspicious of impaired driving both on and off the water.
