Alberta RCMP charge 2 after Calgary police chase, string of break and enters

Two Calgarians are facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle pursuit that started in Airdrie, Alta. ended in Calgary’s downtown core Wednesday afternoon. The two are also facing charges in relation to two other break and enters in Alberta.

Airdrie RCMP said they received a call for a vehicle stolen at gunpoint just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Calgary police said officers in the city were alerted to the vehicle entering city limits and monitored the vehicle with help from the HAWCS helicopter for over seven hours before it stopped outside an apartment building in the city’s southwest. At around 6 p.m., officers arrested a man and woman without incident.

Calgary police had issued a statement Wednesday, dismissing rumours circulating online of multiple carjackings at gunpoint in the city.

Prior to the police chase on Wednesday, a Cochrane homeowner was robbed of several items. An Airdrie home was also broken into Tuesday, during which time a vehicle was stolen.

RCMP said a multi-jurisdictional investigation was launched due to the three events.

William Riley Gossen, 20, and Michaila Mitchell, 18, are facing a number of charges in relation to the three incidents, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, uttering threats, robbery, theft and dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from police.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing, but no further details will be released at this time.

Gossen and Mitchell remain in custody with a bail hearing set for Aug. 4 in Airdrie Provincial Court via CCTV.
