WINNIPEG — A heat wave has swept across southern Manitoba.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to sit between 30 and 35 C, but with the humidity in extreme play, it’s expected to feel a lot more like 40. In heat waves like this it’s important to stay hydrated.

But, have you ever wondered just how hot those items just roasting in the sun are? A leather steering wheel on Wednesday afternoon was about 40 C. Enough to burn your hands if they sit on it for too long. A slide at a playground sat at 68 C.

Heat waves mean not just worrying about hydration and staying covered, but also about avoiding possible burns from everyday things like steering wheels, benches, leather seats and even that playground slide.
