Child with Down syndrome found in Burnaby

Burnaby RCMP and Coquitlam Search and Rescue have found Hyu McCann, a 12-year-old with Down syndrome missing for several hours this afternoon.

McCann and his mother were preparing to leave their apartment, near Metrotown, on a walk when he left the buiding. Police believe Hyu thought his mother had already left without him, when in fact she was still looking for her purse inside the home.

He was found safe and sound by search crews shortly before 5 p.m., and returned home to his worried family.

“I’m shocked, but super happy obviously,” said his father Tim.

“You can’t describe how it feels unless you’re a parent and your son goes missing.”
