A 21-year-old man from Calgary was killed in what appeared to be a tragic accident in Yoho National Park.
It happened on Thursday, July 14 according to Golden-Field RCMP. They were told just before 6 p.m. that a Canadian Forces Search & Rescue helicopter had found the man and were transporting him to Golden, but he died while en route.
“The male was hiking with a group of friends in the alpine above the Little Yoho Campground in Yoho National Park,” Cst. Spencer Lainchbury, spokesperson for the Golden-Field RCMP, said in a statement.
“It’s believed that the male lost his footing, falling approximately 200 meters.”
The victim was later identified as Ryan James McIntosh.
None of the other men in the group of hikers was injured.
The BC Coroner’s Service and Golden-Field RCMP are investigating.
