Winnipeg police searching for 22-year-old suspect in downtown murder

WINNIPEG — More than a week after the violent attack of Cyril Quentin Weenusk on Portage Avenue, police have identified a suspect.

Geordie Douglas Wood, 22, faces a charge of second degree murder in 26-year-old Weenusk’s death.

He died after an altercation with a group of people in the area of Portage Avenue and Donald Street early Tuesday morning, police said.

Wood is described as having dark hair with a slim build and is from St. Theresa Point, Manitoba.

Police are asking for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact detectives at 1-204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 1-204-786-8477.

Police did not supply a photo with the suspect description.

If Wood is seen, police warn that he should not be approached.
