MONTREAL – A 37-year-old man from Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. is clinging to life in hospital after a violent single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

According to Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau with Sûreté du Québec, the crash happened at around 3:20 a.m. as the car was travelling east on des Seigneurs Street in Saint-Hyacinthe’s Sainte-Rosalie district in the Montérégie.

“He left the roadway on the right side, hit one pole and then a second pole, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle,” Thibodeau said.

The car then landed upside down in a ditch by the side of the road.

The victim was treated at the scene and then taken to a trauma centre in Montreal where he remains in critical condition.

Police believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
