St. Andrew’s Darren Helm staying put with Detroit Red Wings: Report

St. Andrew’s Darren Helm is staying in the Motor City.

Helm, 29, reached a deal with the Detroit Red Wings just hours before he was set to become an unrestricted free agent, according to the Detroit Free Press. Helm re-signed with the Red Wings after agreeing to a five year contract that carries an average annual value of $3.85 million.

Helm just completed a four year deal worth $2.13 million per season. He’s played his entire NHL career with the Red Wings after getting drafted by the club in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Draft.

Helm scored 13 goals with 13 assists in 77 games last season. He won the Stanley Cup in 2008 with the Red Wings in his rookie year and over nine seasons has compiled 72 goals and 90 assists in 443 NHL games.
