SEPT-ILES, Que. – A hostage situation in Quebec has ended.
Quebec’s Public Security Department said inmates had taken a female security guard hostage in the basement of a courthouse in Sept-Iles, about 650 kilometres northeast of Quebec City, Wednesday afternoon.
The courthouse has a detention centre in the basement.
The building was evacuated and police erected a security perimeter nearby as the situation unfolded.
Police say they cannot confirm how many convicts are involved, or of the status of the woman who was held hostage.
