Tony Scott, whose credits include Top Gun and Unstoppable, is dead after jumping from a Los Angeles bridge.
The 68-year-old British director and producer plunged 200 metres from the Vincent Thomas Bridge at around 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Witnesses told police a man parked his black Toyota Prius on an eastbound lane of the bridge, climbed a 10-foot fence and jumped into the water.
Scott’s body was recovered a short time later and investigators found a suicide note in Scott’s office in downtown Los Angeles.

A post-mortem is scheduled for Monday but Lieutenant Joe Bale of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office told reporters there was no evidence of foul play. “We have no reason to believe it was not a suicide.”
Scott’s publicist Simon Halls confirmed his client’s death. “The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time,” he said, in a statement.
Scott, the younger brother of director Ridley Scott, is survived by his third wife, actress Donna Scott, and twin sons Frank and Max.
Scott’s films include Man On Fire, Enemy of the State and Days of Thunder. He worked with stars like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Will Smith and Kevin Costner and made nearly half-a-dozen movies with Denzel Washington. Scott directed several Canadian actors, including Bruce Greenwood, Barry Pepper, Saul Rubinek and Kim Coates.
He won an Emmy Award in 2002 for the TV movie The Gathering Storm.
Scott produced movies like this year’s sci-fi blockbuster Prometheus, which was directed by his brother Ridley. He was an executive producer of several TV series, including The Good Wife and the Canadian-German co-production Pillars of the Earth.
